Music of color”
Abstract
This article is dedicated to enduring art mystery related to the question of how the worlds of music and colour meet and interact. This mystery has been disturbing scientists and artists for ages. One of the worlds' interaction theories, the “Music of Colour”, is discussed in this article. Authors of previous theories were trying to find compliance of notes with colours, and create the colour accompaniment for musical compositions by developing music of colour over time. The “Music of Colour” author, Oleksandr Bezrukov, the Associated Professor of the Painting Department, has offered to create musical harmony by using consonance of colours in space. Associative and metaphorical compositions of the “Music of Colour” is built according to the laws of the Universe. An associative art image is created by the natural interaction of two energy flows which symbolize an item and background at the subconscious level.
This article describes how the associative art images are being built, genesis and development of this style within the best traditions of Kharkiv Art School.
The associative and metaphorical colour compositions that have appeared as the result of performing learning assignments in chromatics became specific “Music of Colour” artworks. Later, the works by Oleksandr Bezrukov's students and followers were united within a separate subtype of non-figurative art. Associative and metaphorical colour compositions can be successfully used in different design areas and exist as specific works of art.
The article shows the genesis history of the “Music of Colour” in Ukrainian realia. It also describes how the compositions of colours develop in space and how art image in the associative and metaphorical “Music of Colour” compositions. According to the article, the “Music of Colour” works are composed according to the univesal and colour harmonization laws, including the colours semantic meaning.
