ICONIC AND VERBAL PARADIGMS OF THOUGHT

Keywords: icons, intelligence, thinking, image, color, information model, bilateral perception.

Abstract

Abstract. The paper presents and substantiates possible
ways of constructing an information model of iconic and,
specifically, image-based thought. The approach used for this is
chromatism methodology, which is designed to study information
models of self-developing systems. A functional division of the
intellect into the conscious consciousness, the feeling subconscious
and the sensing unconsciousness, with differentiation of their
predicates by gender, enables presenting an image-concept as a stage
of subconscious-iconic processing of information at the iconic level
of representation in a semantic rhombus. The introduction of
chromatic plans for each of the components of intelligence makes it
possible to outline ways to operationalize the principles of thought.
The dynamics of sensing and perceiving color objects are
presented in relation to understanding images, so that the perceptual
and analytic-interpretive in iconic perception emerge as a single
whole in the principles of bilateral thought, given the oppositionally
based character of color modality. In this regard, the paper reviews
key “turns” of thought in the XXth-century humanities, from
linguistic varieties to iconic thought, with a relevant correlation of
the latter as a formation of ideal (fundamentally immeasurable and/or
non-verbalizable) image-concepts in culture, on the one hand, and of
their materialization in civilization's images, on the other.
The ontological significance of iconic universals is
represented by the fact that they exist, on the one hand, only in
thought, and on the other, in reality, as archetypal image-concepts
ideally objectified in representatively reproduced images. At the
same time, the metalanguage of chromatism clearly demonstrates not
only the difference in individual researchers' ideas, but also reveals
certain directions in styles of thought, based on the example of their
iconic models.
Key words: icons, intelligence, thinking, image, color,
information model, bilateral perception.
