Abstract

The article deals with the artwork of the famous contemporary Lviv artist Oleg Denisenko, which was covered in other studies and articles, yet the coverage was considered superficially, without analysis of the author’s artistic language and without taking into account the experimental and innovative methods in his art. Emphasis is made on the different styles of plastic language which reflect in graphic works and sculpture, and analyzes the purpose of the artist to turn to sculpture, as sculpture is a three-dimensional reflection of his graphic works with his special personality and figurative language which is filled with a sign system and symbolic meaning. The article provides semiotic awareness to the viewer in order to fix clear guidelines for the interpretation of the encrypted content of the art and familiarize the reader with the topics addressed by the artist, interpreting the archetypal plots and traditions of classical cultural heritage. The stages of development and formation of the figurative language of the modern graphic artist O. Denisenko are reviewed, as the language can be traced to different types of his work and reflect his personal worldview. For Oleg Denisenko, art is a space of freedom, creativity, experimentation and discovery. His artworks are filled with imagery, with tribute to artists from early centuries and with expressions of emotions. The artist's works are filled with symbolic and semiotic meaning, to transfer the experience of previous generations to all of humanity. This is how O. Denisenko communicates with the viewer and reveals to him a world filled with a system of meanings by which cognition and self-knowledge occurs. The sculptural compositions of the artist, in their manner of execution, seem to immerse the viewer in the past and transmit the knowledge of generations, depicting a part of medieval legends, stories and myths. The artist's work inspires the viewer to constantly immerse himself in reflection, to return to deep truths and historical foundations. The artist himself defines his style as medieval symbolism. The creative work of Oleg Denisenko occupies his niche in the Ukrainian fine arts and should be represented not only in Ukraine, but in the European space as well.
