Current trends in ukrainian graphic arts: new word in art or the destroyment of traditions

Abstract

The article highlights the phenomenon of the synthesis of traditions and innovations in modern Ukrainian graphic arts. Special emphasis is placed on printmaking, which has always been one of the most interesting, but also the most complex artistic phenomenen. The problem of the interaction of traditions and innovation in the artistic field is characterized using the example of graphic arts, and the attraction of representatives of the modern generation to the use of computer graphic arts techniques is noted. Trends in modern Ukrainian printmaking, innovations, and tools of new generation artists are considered. The problem of the danger of the disappearance of classical techniques due to the strengthening of the positions of computer graphic arts (C.A.D.) is raised. Attention is focused on ways to preserve classical traditions using the example of intaglio printing techniques: etching, mezzo-tint, aquatint, dry point. The reasons for the emergence and strengthening of such a danger, the dominance of computer graphic arts over traditional graphic techniques, are highlighted. The main trends in the existence of these techniques, ways of their preservation in various combinations are analyzed using the examples of works by a number of artists of different schools. The specifics of the work of individual bright representatives of the most characteristic schools (Lviv, Kyiv, Odessa) are highlighted, who use traditional intaglio printing techniques, combining them, experimenting with technology, materials, creating new variations of traditional techniques. Significant examples of the works of the Luhansk artist K. Kalynovych in the field of creating an art book are highlighted. Attention is focused on the work of the representative of the Lviv school O. Denysenko, who patented a new technique he invented, “gesography”, which has become the most important tool in the process of preserving printmaking in the modern artistic field, ways of integrating such a phenomenon into the outpost of modern fine arts are emphasized, examples of the synthesis of various artistic processes in a work of applied art are given.
